100 Comics Rebuilt, 100 To Go!
2 months ago – Wed, Jun 19, 2019 at 01:06:30 AM

Hello everyone, Matthew here, emerging from my cave with a progress update. The comic-rebuilding process has now reached its halfway point, with 100 of them having been revived, reanimated, and full of Waluigi horribleness!

Now, this number is including the 20 or so comics that survived the Wapocalypse, and I did save the more time-consuming comics for later so that I could have that feeling of constant forward momentum going, so I'm a bit less than halfway through remaking what I've lost. But it's a solid start and I'm going to keep continuing working through these toasty Summer months to get everything back in order! As of right now, everything should continue to be on the updated schedule from the last post; I'm shooting for having all my lost content finished near the end of August and being able to wrap up the rest of the book in the following months.

And for those curious, I am now regularly backing up my work on an external hard drive so that it doesn't blow up all over again.

That's all for now. Oh, and how about that E3? I'm psyched for The Hero and Banjo-Kazooie, even if they aren't quite our glorious, purple rapscallion.

Waluigi Time Repeats Itself
3 months ago – Tue, May 21, 2019 at 02:12:52 AM

Hi everyone. I hope you're sitting down, because today's update is a biggie...

Three weeks ago, my hard drive suddenly crashed. Despite sending it to three different places (the last one being a data recovery company across the country), the sad fact of the matter is that the data is unrecoverable. The hard drive, for whatever reason, has internal damage beyond repair and it took years of data with it. Normally, this wouldn't be so bad except I lacked the foresight to follow a digital creators' first rule: always back everything up.

So the unthinkable has happened: my 200 completed comics plus miscellaneous work such as the inside cover images have been lost forever. Vanished into the digital ether. Ouch.

So here's what's happening: I'm doing them all again. I thankfully have all my sketches on paper so none of the actual ideas are lost. I also managed to salvage about 20 or so strips from emails, NF Magazine contributions and messages I've sent over the past year (I don't have to recreate the cover, for instance).

This will push the book back a bit, but I feel that it can be in your hands, ready to go this winter. The next several months will be extremely busy for me, but I've already started remaking them and can get 5 - 10 done in a weekday.

I'm sorry about the inconvenience and I greatly regret that I foolishly didn't back up my save files, but believe you me, I'm paying the price for it now. Despite dreading redoing hundreds of hours of work, I can tell you I'm not going to sacrifice the quality of the book in the process. It'll still contain all the bonus stuff, all the stretch goals, all the little details that you've come to expect from a book of comics bearing my name. I'm not going to let a little thing like total annihilation stop this book from being made!

I'd also like to offer something as a token of apology for the delay, but I'm not sure what yet. Maybe a new Waluigi song to coincide with the book launch?

(I almost considered uploading a bonus comic of Luigi pushing a button to destroy the book, but I figured I didn't need to pile on any extra comics in the process...!)

I now have a new hard drive and a new system for backing up my comics so this won't happen again (good grief, can you imagine?). Please don't hesitate to ask any questions you may have about the release--any necessary address changes or what-have-you can be altered through BackerKit. All bonuses (such as the drawing on paper) will be sent out with the book when it's ready.

Thank you for your continued loyalty and patience. If this is too big of an inconvenience for you, please send me a PM through KS and we'll figure out a way to resolve your issue. In the meantime, I'll be locked in my office, probably drawing one of Waluigi's teeth for the ten-thousandth time...

Happy Waluigi Day!
5 months ago – Tue, Apr 02, 2019 at 12:35:10 AM

The book is canceled. Just kidding, April Fools.

Hm, my April Fools trickery seems to be a little rusty. But the good news is that as of today, I've reached a major milestone for the completion of this book! And since it's April 1st, I've decided to let a special guest tell you what that is...

All right, Waluigi, that's plenty for now. But the obstinate oddball is correct--EVERY comic is completed! Over the next couple months, I'll be working hard to cram in all the bonus content within the book, and as we draw nearer to completion, I'll update you guys with some full page mock-ups to enjoy. My target as of now is to have the book's design completed by the end of summer, so that I'll hopefully be able to mail out the finished books in October.

Remember to fill out your surveys if you haven't yet! And for those of you with content in the book itself (Special Thanks and fan art), I'll be needing those within the next few weeks if possible.

In the meantime, have a very very purple April Fools Day! Can you believe it's been ten years since the first Waluigi comics? Time flies when you're screaming WAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Surveys Are Sent!
6 months ago – Fri, Mar 08, 2019 at 05:22:42 PM

All surveys have been sent out, including the non-Kickstarter PayPal backers! Please check the e-mail you used when you made a pledge to find a link to your survey. A few notes--

For anyone who has a Special Thanks name in the book, you can simply list which name you'd like as an answer to that survey question. Nothing nasty though, you know what I mean! We've got some kiddos reading this, after all.

If you have a piece of Waluigi fan-art, either as part of the gallery or an image that will go on the full page (WAL-NUT tier), you'll be posting that in the survey as well. It's easiest for me if you upload a digital version (or scan) of the image to a URL, such as Imgur, Photobucket or Facebook. If that's not an option, you can always send it to me via e-mail, which is mentioned in your survey too.

And if you'd like to upgrade your pledge for whatever reason, we now have a handy new section that BackerKit refers to as Add-Ons! These give you the option of adding a signature/sketch to your book (if you don't have one coming already), or even picking up one of these bad boys...

...a unique full-page sketch of the man in purple himself! It's an exclusive option for you backers and preorderers. You can also nab a Baton mini-plush from my game, Tadpole Treble (these are limited and it may be the last time you can get one!) or a Steam key for Tadpole Treble.

Back to work on the book I go! Make sure to answer your surveys!

Backer Surveys Coming in a Week!
6 months ago – Thu, Feb 28, 2019 at 10:22:41 PM

Salutations, Waluigi aficionados! It's update time!

First and foremost, your backer surveys will be arriving within the next week! This time around, I'm going through Backerkit to keep everything extra organized. Backerkit is a slick tool that should make managing your orders a lot easier than in the past, and it allows for a couple cool features not possible in the prior BitF Kickstarters. For instance, you can change your address easily through it in case you move, and you'll also have the option of adding more items to your order if you feel like it (such as another book, or getting your unsigned book signed).

All surveys will be coming soon, so keep an eye out, especially if you're one of the people who has a Special Thanks name or piece of art in the book! I'll be needing those sooner rather than later, so please don't hesitate to send me your art or names! If your art isn't finished yet, that's fine for now, but I'll be posting later when the deadline is approaching, so make sure to start drawing soon if you haven't yet.

The book is coming along nicely--roughly 80% of the new comics are completely done, while several more have already been conceptualized and are just waiting to be drawn up. During these last few months, I'll be kicking it into overdrive, putting the new features into place and getting everything in order for the book itself to make sure it gets to you guys this year.

Lastly, I'd like to sincerely apologize for not answering my Kickstarter messages as well as I should have. I fully intend to get to every last one of them in the next several days, so please stand by for that.

Thanks again for the support, and keep an eye out for the surveys next week! WAAAAAA
